Poem A Day - Poem for April 10, 2009

Obviously, the prompt today was to write a poem about Friday. It happens to be my favorite day of the week. Here is the prompt from Poetic Asides with Robert Lee Brewer:

"I want you to write a poem about Friday. Do you like Fridays? Despise Fridays? Of course, you can also write about something that happened on a Friday--or write an ode to Fridays. Or, as you know, I'm all for seeing you attack this from an angle I haven't thought of yet."

An Ode to Friday

Sound the trumpets, beat the drums
Here comes Friday
Into the hum drum existence of my week
T G I F
The gift is Friday!

Sweeping in on silver wings
Brushing against my soul with
Its promises
Whispered, imagined, desired
Dreams pent up inside all week
Yearn to escape

It’s Friday and the whole world is covered
In chocolate and cherry blossoms
The weekend awaits like an ardent lover
Ready to wrap its arms around me
Comfort and soothe away the week’s worries

Friday settles in a warm glow around my heart
A day for joking and feeling young
Smiles abound as night nears
Choices like an old fashioned automat
Appear and open their windows to promises.
